Electric Runway X Raw Finery Studio
Four days after Electric Runway, and we are still processing how amazing this innovative event was. The brainchild of Amanda Cosco, a fashion + tech multi-media journalist, Electric Runway is one of the first events of its kind that is bringing the future of fashion to the public.
Wearable technologies and fashion tech are quickly evolving and passing through the prototype stages, but most of the public hasn’t the foggiest what it is or their perception is limited to technology like the Fitbit or smart watches. The carefully curated event featured talented designers and makers that are revolutionizing the industry and gave a glimpse at where fashion and society is headed. LED lighting integrated into garments for bike safety, designers demonstrated how motion can influence light and sound emanating from the garment, 3D printing artisans showed how delicate and beautiful it can be for jewelry and small accessories, and ESight, a medical wearable that helps the blind see, was paired with the cyborg fashions of Vandal.
Electric Runway was a component of Maker Festival whose event theme was “Make It Glow.” The venue of 918 Bathurst Street was luminescent, iridescent, and joyful. We were so glad that we were asked to be a part of this fantastic evening and of helping Amanda Cosco’s vision a reality. We organized and ran the model casting with an awesome panel, planned the backstage logistics, mixed the music for the runway show, and stage managed the extravaganza that was Electric Runway.
We are so thankful for the incredible people who contributed to make Electric Runway a success. The models who donated their time, Spellbound Hair Design for creating some seriously badass coifs, our freelance makeup artists that transformed our models’ faces into masterpieces, and the designers and makers who participated. We’d also like to give a special shout-out to Fashion Zone for providing such fantastic volunteers. We were so impressed with the dedication, drive and initiative shown by each and every one of our backstage crew!
