Holiday Challenge: Shop Local

Holiday Gift Guide Image   The holidays are approaching, and those who are wise are jumping on their shopping lists with vigor, eyes on completing their present hunting before the last-minute madness begins. This year we are extending a challenge to all of you… SHOP LOCAL! We are always raving about buying Canadian made products and supporting local talent and for good reason. Toronto boasts an impressive roster of crafts people, designers, and builders. You really CAN buy anything your heart desires and all from your own backyard. If focusing on buying local wares for the season seems a bit daunting, here is a handy list of fleas and markets that will make finding that unique gift for the one-of-a-kind person in your life so much easier.   NOVEMBER 21 Trinity Bellwoods Flea: November Edition 824 Dundas Street West 11 AM – 6 PM One of the most well-curated fleas we have ever experienced, Trinity Bellwoods Flea offers a wide variety of wares from fashion, household, and delicious edibles, everything your heart desires is here. Want a hand-crafted card to go with that present? Choose one from the flea’s stationary vendors. Plus you can shop while sipping a mimosa or rum spiked cider. What mall allows you to do THAT?   NOVEMBER 22: Toronto Art Crawl Christmas Market The Great Hall (1087 Queen West) 11 AM – 7 PM Toronto Art Crawl takes over the Great Hall for their second annual Christmas Market. Not only is it a shopping extravaganza, but there are fun events that everyone can enjoy. There are live and interactive artist demonstrations, an “I Love Toronto” exhibit, and face-painting for their little ones. Of course Santa will be on hand. Get there early for the limited swag bags.   Nov 26 – Dec 6: The One of a Kind Show Enercare Centre, Exhibition Place The One of a Kind Show is perhaps one of the most well-known and original markets for finding local goods. This year the show takes over The Enercare centre with over 800 Canadian artisans.
