June Events Calendar
Each month our calendar fills with a flurry of fashion and wearable tech events, and we’ve decided to start giving you a monthly list of some of our top events for each month.
Our June edition is full of summer fun events: Outdoor BBQs, tea parties, fashion shows, and adorable animals in wearables are just some of the fantastic things we are looking forward to.
So add these events to your calendar, and we hope to see you there!
Wednesday June 3
7-10 PM @ the MaRS Discovery Centre
We thought we had day-dreamed this event when we were reviewing our social calendar. After all, it isn’t every fashion or tech event that can boast having a Lemur in attendance. This month’s We Are Wearables event is all about the pets in our lives and the emerging technology being made just for them. Learn more about what wearables are available and how they can help improve your pet’s life. And of course, squeal over the adorableness of Moxie the St. John Ambulance Therapy dog, Geronimo the silver fox, King Julian the ring-tailed Lemur, and Tigger the red Kangaroo.
Saturday June 13
1 – 6 PM @ 1122 Queen Street East
We have been going to this event for YEARS! It’s always a bang up good time and one of our summer highlights. Hosted by Rory and Kelly of the infamous Toronto fashion line Damzels in This Dress and proprietors of Doll Factory, the annual BBQ takes place in the lot behind their Leslieville shop. This year’s theme is Cowboy cuties, so pull on your finest western-inspired duds. There will be Sailor Jerry’s rum, yummy BBQ, games, prizes for best dressed “honky tonk honeys and cowboy cuties,” a piñata, awesome bands, and of course babes wearing the finest fashions from the shop. Need we say more?
Saturday June 13
6:30 – 10:30 PM @ The Flying Pony (1481 Gerrard Street East)
If you are a fan of Alice in Wonderland, than this themed tea party hosted by Toronto fashion label Gloomth is just for you. Gloomth is hosting an art and fashion tea party at the East End’s Flying Pony. Dress up in your finest tea party regalia to partake of tea, delicious noms, psychic readings, art, and Gloomth wares while listening to some great tunes. The event is all-ages, but the event is best suited for those over the age of 14.
Sunday June 21
Daniels Spectrum Centre
Need a fashion fix? Missing the fashion shows of the Spring? Get your fix with Xposed Fashion Show’s second annual fashion extravaganza featuring talented up-and-coming local designers. The show will feature 15 fashion designers at the wonderful Daniels Spectrum Centre venue. This year’s event will also feature creative performances, a silent auction and a trade show. “Xposed has evolved from a runway show to a major event that offers exposure to student designers, photographers, models and artists,” said Visionary Events owner Rebecca King. Tickets are available now and going fast, so get yours ASAP.
June 27 – 28
11 AM – 5 PM each day @ Artscape Youngplace (180 Shaw Street)
No June calendar could be complete without a Pride event thrown in. Pride is always a feast of glittering and creative costumes, and this year’s Pink Market will be bringing a fun craft, fashion, art & literature fair to the week-long festivities. On the last weekend of Pride, swing by the Artscape Youngplace building for a great opportunity to peruse some unique and hand-made items by queer artisans.
