Our Spidey Senses Are Tingling
Wearable technology is a vastly growing sector of the technology game, and while most of what is grabbing the spotlight is smart watch or fitness related, Anouk Wipprecht has taken it in an all new artistic and slightly creepy direction.
The Spider Dress is incredible aesthetically, it’s design reminiscent of the late H.R. Giger’s sci-fi etchings. The dress was created using 3D printing and robotics which rely on the Intel Edison chip . The design reads unconscious biosignals to control the movements of the piece. The legs on react to movement in it’s surroundings similarly to a spider. The “eyes” of the spider which travel down the bodice light up as a flashing warning symbol if the wearer is approached too quickly.
Although it could be said that this piece is purely an aesthetic design, the technology used has many more useful applications that could be developed.
