Star Wars X WMCFW
Star Wars just released the latest trailer for the much-anticipated reboot of the beloved sci-fi flick with JJ Abrams at the helm. Die-hard fans have been salivating at the early glimpses shooting across our screens, and hoping upon hope that THIS time it’s done right.
Regardless of your level of fandom, Star Wars has taken over the globe with merchandise. Branding of the cult-status film has been appearing on everything! I personally am now the proud owner of an electric Darth Vader toothbrush from my local Shoppers and have stocked up on more Star Wars band-aids then I will ever need.
Not one to be left out of the latest surging trend (let’s remember the Minion takeover – a smart marketing stunt that still couldn’t redeem the film), the fashion industry has been quick to get it’s well-heeled toe into the fray.
One of the much-anticipated showcases at Toronto’s World Mastercard Fashion Week this season, was a special Star Wars showcase on Day 3.
Aside from a chic installation in the main tent at David Pecaut Square that featured a selection of branded athletic wear and an elaborate collection of Star Wars footwear, a runway presentation was held to celebrate the iconic film.
The finalists of the Mercedez Benz Start-Up program were asked to create a Star Wars inspired design for the Disney-sponsored show. Models displaying the designs of Beaufille, Narces, Laura Siegel, S.P. Badu, Leinad Beaudet, and UNTTLD stood lit on pedestals while storm troopers roamed the runway room armed with blasters.
On the heels of their Mercedez Benz Start-Up win, Montreal’s UNTTLD snapped up the prize for the best Star Wars costume in a contest that awarded a $15 000 prize.
