Day 4 – Toronto Fashion Week

We’ve compiled a sizzle reel of the hottest designers that hit the runway at Toronto Fashion Week’s Autumn/Winter 2016 shows at David Pecaut Square. To experience this homage to Canadian fashion, join us at the tents all week on our Twitter and Instagram.

Daniel Christian Tang:

We all bumped against each other disoriented as we entered the Toronto Fashion Week presentation for Daniel Christian Tang. As our eyes adjusted, we found ourselves in the midst of a future world. Models towered above us on podiums while a film playing at the end of the runway echoed out the process of 3D printing the collection. We picked up a distinctive HR Giger influence in the wearable art pieces. The one-off statement pieces intermingled with the purchasable collection, angular lines complimented by their now-signature delicate web of detail.

Hayley Elsaesser:

Australian-expat Hayley Elsaesser’s shows are one of the most anticipated during the fashion season  in Toronto. Not only are her fun collections a feast of eye candy on the runway, but her loyal fan following’s adventurous style is a joy to see and explore. This is one of THE best shows to spot the hottest street style movers and shakers. The show opened with wise words from The Dude. Models clad in Hayley’s signature tongue-in-cheek vibrant prints passed between a giant milk crate and bowling ball. Diversity won on the runway with friends and family of the designer intermingled with models  – all shapes, heights, race, and age were rocking their strut. It was such a pleasure to see people who we can identify with, to see ourselves in a brilliant fashion moment. The dedicated audience was cheering on the models and designs throughout the entire show, ending with deafening applause for Hayley Elsaesser herself!

Rudsak:

Outside the fur protesters raged, while inside we huddled inside our coats, security guards positioned on every aisle to ensure safety and security for all present. It seemed fitting that Rudsak’s AW16 collection was an ode to Vikings and a cry to wage war on the harsh Canadian winters. The epic soundtrack beat as the models stomped down the runway bundled in layers of the label’s signature tailored parkas, woolen ponchos layered over leather coats, and fur hiding sensitive areas from the cruel elements. Amongst the lit columns, fog rolled in and the war drums played as the models gave us one last look at this strong collection.
