The Man Behind Fashion Santa
Fashion Santa has gone VIRAL! International media outlets have catapulted the now infamous Fashion Santa onto the global stage, while social media is a-buzz with his dapper style and striking good looks. Now in its second year, Yorkdale’s Fashion Santa is firmly in the lime-light. But who is the man behind the viral image?
For many who are not in the fashion industry, you may not know the power-house that is Paul Mason. The Canadian, Toronto-based model’s career is the male equivalent of a supermodel like Linda Evangelista. He has worked with such fashion giants as Versace, Donna Karan, Giorgio Armani, and Dolce and Gabanna. Legendary photographers Patrick Demarchelier, Peter Lindbergh, and Albert Watson have all worked with him. Over his 30 year career, Paul Mason has defied fashion’s obsession with youth, building a strong presence in the community and creating a career that younger models aspire to.
Here in Toronto, Paul can often be spotted in the front row of fashion shows…If he’s not walking in them. He dominated the catwalk during both TOM* and MasterCard Fashion Week for the Spring/Summer 2016 show, walking for the likes of Christopher Bates and Finezza – Au nom de l’Homme.
On and off the runway, this distinguished model makes a lasting impression. With his lean 6 ft, 1.5 inch frame and piercing blue eyes, he commands attention. He has been an outspoken supporter of Canadian fashion and designers, encouraging consumers to support local talent by buying pieces from their collections. Paul Mason also participates as a knowledgeable and charismatic speaker on panels for the fashion industry. At TOM* Talks hosted by Roger Gingerich during TOM* SS16, he spoke about the current direction and future of menswear on both a local and global level [See the article HERE].
It seems fitting to us that Paul Mason was chosen to embody the spirit of Saint Nick as Fashion Santa. Aside from his now iconic beard which he began growing 2 years ago, Paul does carry an aura of joy with him wherever he goes. His calm and friendly demeanour is always a settling presence during the chaos of fashion weeks, his smile creates a rippling echo from those around him, and he can be ever so mischievous and delightfully wicked.
If you’d like to learn more about Paul Mason, Novella just did a fantastic spontaneous interview with him that you can read HERE.
Aside from the obvious boost of traffic to the Yorkdale Mall, visiting Fashion Santa raises money for a fantastic organization. For every selfie posted using the hashtag #YorkdaleFashionSanta, the mall will donate $1 to the Sick Kids Foundation. You can find information about his appearance dates and times HERE.
