We Are Open!
This is it! After nearly 3 years of planning and logistics, we are ready to open the doors of our beautiful 3000 sq. foot studio to the public! This Saturday July 16th we will be holding a meet & greet and tours on a drop-in basis from noon to 8pm. Come in and chat with our creative director Benjamin Tang about our studio’s mission and experience our incredible view for yourself!
We are located in the heart of downtown Toronto at 555 Richmond St. West unit 1001. Our flexible, multi-purpose studio provides space, equipment and services to fashion professionals, photographers, technology developers, designers and artists from a diverse range of disciplines. At Raw Finery Studio we aim to break away from isolating workspaces to create a supportive, inclusive community. We are an LGBTQ+ welcoming space and we are fully accessible to those with limited mobility.
Our fashion production membership package includes access to 2 industrial straight-stitch sewing machines, 2 Sergers (4-thread and 5-thread), a walking-foot machine for canvas, leather, etc., a cover-stitch machine and an industrial iron. We will be adding more equipment on an ongoing basis, chosen by member interest. Along with needle & thread, expect to see wires and microchips; we are placing special emphasis on the rapidly growing feild of fashion-technology. So if you want to learn about and connect with wearable technology designers, our studio provides an excellent resource.
Natural light streams in through our photography cove’s north-facing windows. The 2-wall cyclorama photo studio comes with many amenities including a lounge, kitchenette, change room, makeup table, and access to stock backdrops.
Coworking membership packages include work space, Wi-Fi internet and a spectacular view of the city skyline. Coworking at Raw Finery Studio offers connections and networking opportunities within the fashion and design industry, a perk not always found at other shared workspaces. By coworking at Raw Finery Studio you become a member of a collaborative, dynamic work environment that aims to form new synergies by connecting people with diverse skill sets.
More than just a cowork space, Raw Finery Studio will offer workshops and talks on a wide range of topics. Our meeting room is the perfect space for group meetups. Larger conferences may take place in our main open-concept area. A sound-dampened room provides a space for slightly louder or messier projects without disturbing the main space.
On Sunday July 17th, creative director Benjamin Tang will give a talk about the role played by education, libraries and makerspaces in engaging diverse audiences in the design/maker community. The talk will be held at the Make Change conference at the Design Exchange (234 Bay St.) at 10am.
If you can’t make it to these events, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to book a free tour on another date. We can’t wait to welcome you to Raw Finery Studio!
